The last 3 years of Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year award saw a diesel, a plug-in hybrid, and a natural gas win the award. This year, on the second day of the LA Auto Show, the Ford Fusion was announced as the winner.
The Fusion was nominated for the award partly because of the variety of power-trains including a hybrid, a plug-in hybrid Energi, and an EcoBoost gasoline engine.
The other finalists for the 2013 Award were the Dodge Dart Aero, the Ford C-max, the Mazda CX-5 Skyactiv and the Toyota Prius C.
The Green Car of the Year is selected by an 11 member panel comprising of automotive and environmental experts including Jay Leno and Green Car Journal staf.
